Week 2
I apologize for the potentially funky formatting, I'm not sure what is going on either. While it just might be my computer, I am sorry if it isn't.
1) I decided to split this question up into it's components.
1) I decided to split this question up into it's components.
Reflect on the previous week’s goals - did you make any progress?
I mean, I think did. I signed up for a training at the Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands, meaning I now have the opportunity to work/volunteer there (this is all assuming I get screened positively at the training, interview well, get accepted to the program, etc). I think it would be so incredible to work closely with marine animals!!!!
I also want to explain more about the Orpheum. I went to go see the 20th anniversary tour of Rent (it was so amazing and spectacular and life changing), but didn't have an opportunity to get merchandise because I chose not to get it at intermission and right after the show ended up meeting the cast and going back stage (totally worth it!). I went back Friday after school to see if I could buy merchandise, and because I was there at 4 for a 7pm show was told to either come back at 7 or Saturday at 1:15. As I had to be at an art show Friday in Alameda, I chose to come back Saturday. I started talking to the security guard who escorted me in and out of the theater to get merchandise. He was a really cool dude, and we had a wonderful conversation. Somewhere in there, he told me to apply for the usher position as I "seemed like a good kid". I got my application Tuesday and turned it in on Wednesday (which was yesterday). And now I wait to hear about that opportunity.
Where do you need to go from here? What can you accomplish over the Presidents Week Vacation?
Later this evening, when I get home, I will talk to my mom about proofreading my application for California Academy of Sciences. But honestly, because I have so much homework due tomorrow, that will probably happen this weekend. (I'm trying to get it done before Saturday, so I don't have to worry about it.)
There is another application I am going to complete (probably) where I could work (volunteer, really) at a cafe that also has a room where you can play with cats that need to be adopted. This place is called KitTea and is apparently located on Geary Street. This would combine my love of animals (not marine animals, I know, but I love cats, too), my love of tea, and my love of trying new things. I think I will try and actually go to this place and try their tea and see what they are like to see if this a place where I actually want to work. (At the moment, this is the only place that I am applying to work or volunteer at that I have not visited, and would really love to [because cats/kittens and tea seems like a delightful combination]).
2) List all possible conflicts during the weeks of Senior Project (AP’s, music/athletic commitments, jobs, personal/family plans). How do you plan to work around them?
So my thing at the Orpheum will probably turn into a job. Like a part time, paying job. But they seem really flexible, so I'm sure I can work with them to figure stuff out if conflicts were to arise. "But how?", you might ask. The answer is that they have 6 days I can work, and typically 2 shifts per day. As long as I tell them days in advance, I'm sure we can work with each other to figure something out.
I will not be taking any AP or subject tests this year. AP's are out because I am not taking any AP classes and I REALLY do not feel like studying for one. While subject tests are supposedly easier, I don't feel like studying/paying/dealing with that, so I do not think I will (plus there does not seem to be much of a point, in all honesty).
I shouldn't have a sports commitment, as I am not playing one. The only thing I can think of sports wise is that I go to a Giants game (or two.... or three.....) with (a) friend(s) or family. But of course, I will be responsible and work around known commitments and not go to a game when I should be working/volunteering/being generally productive. I do, though, go to the gym several times a week. Two times I am working with a trainer. Currently I am working with her Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings which generally should not be an issue. But if there is a conflict with that, I will work with everyone to rectify the situation.
I don't have any musical commitments that I know of, but I might start taking bass lessons, when I think should be pretty easy to work around, but that is not set in stone. I have to verify when the Radiohead concert is, but that shouldn't be an issue.
In terns of family commitments, there will honestly and probably be conflicts. My aunt (Dad's younger sister) and her husband live in El Cerrito, so I suspect due to me not having school, will probably do something. Also, my grandparents (Dad's parents) now have a place in Walnut Creek, so they will probably be in town for the end of senior project or graduation.
