Week 9

This is your last blog entry before Senior Project begins. Please write a thoughtful and thorough blog that discusses your progress so far on your project, and anything that you might be nervous about going into the full project month.

I feel pretty confident overall going into senior project. I have an internship, and one that is flexible.  This would be the one at KitTea. I have an interview for the internship I really, really, want on Tuesday, and I really hoping that that works out. This would be at CPMC. The internship would be the last barrier, and the thing that will decide if I am hired (I think). So where I stand as of April 21st is that I have an interview set, and I have another more exciting and informative one that will probably happen.

I am nervous about making my product, because the product I really want to make does not go as nicely with the internship I currently have. As I am writing this the week before this blog post is due, I am going to talk to someone (probably my advisor) about finalizing it. The project I would like to make is a website dedicated to talking about health resources aimed at teenagers in the Bay Area. I know Kaiser has a program aimed at teenage wellbeing, and Planned Parenthood also has stuff dedicated to teens. (To verify that this was true and that Planned Parenthood actually had resources for the imagined target demographic, I did a quick google search and within five or so minutes found a page for teens, which can be found here: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens.) I would be interested in learning more about those programs, in addition to the other programs that I am sure exist.

I am also nervous about presenting at the end of Senior Project. While I am sure things will go fine - if not good or great - I am still nervous about who I will be presenting to. I am sure I will pass and graduate, but I am nervous about not doing that, too.

UPDATE 4/26/17
I interviewed yesterday, and I got accepted to be a volunteer. I just won't be able to start until the end of the first week or the start of the second. There are a few more hoops I need to jump through (like a background test), but then I can. I don't think I can volunteer in the ER, but I will be working at a hospital (radiology and the NCU are likely places I will be volunteering).

UPDATE 4/27/17
Once I jump though a couple more hoops, I will be able to begin volunteering. Because I am 18, I have to get fingerprinted. Once that clears, I have to get my uniform and badge, and then go though a 4 hour training on the layout of the hospital and how to move patients in things that move (like wheelchairs and stretchers).  I will also need to pick up uniform, but that will happen when I pick up my badge. To be clear, next week I will be volunteering at KitTea, mainly to get hours in, internship wise (and to make sure I have a secured internship on the off chance that my CPMC one falls thorough). Hopefully I can start volunteering at CPMC a week from today. If not then, then that Friday or the next Monday.
