Day Twenty Three

- 4 hours at internship
- 2 at School
 - 1 hour blogging
- 1 website
154   Previous Hours +  8 hours today =  162 hours total

Today on my way out of my internship, I met a pathology front desk lady who grew up near University of British Columbia, and we exchanged contact info. She said she would be happy to offer me guidance/advice/show me around/just talk to that was awesome. For another day, I finished all the work that was given to me early AND well. As tonight is senior project presentations, I happily volunteered to leave early (especially because my boss was ENTIRELY OUT of things for me to do because I have been working so efficiently). That was how I met Sabrina, my Vancouver contact. My boss also (kindly) used part of his lunch break to actually show me stuff. Today - mainly because I told him I was presenting later and he wanted to give me something exciting to talk about when it came to pathology - showed me around where they cut parts of organs to go on slides. I got to hold a cancerous colon WHICH HAD BEEN IN A PERSON MERE HOURS BEFORE I HELD IT and part of a diseased femur (both which had been soaking in formalin). While I wasn't able to take photos due to HIPPA and other patient privacy laws, I found a site that goes into what I learned about the colon, and you can find it here: https://grosspathology-sites.uchicago.edu/page/colon-and-rectum-neoplastic. So far nothing has really grossed me out - just amazed me. Because of this (and my willingness to learn and genuine interest) I think there is now a willingness to try and gross me out/show me as much as possible. We also had a great talk once I told my boss I was genuinely interested, which was awesome.
